Now Page?
I was introduced to the idea for a Now page in a Tim Ferris podcast with Derek Sivers. A now page is a snapshot of the most important things a person is spending time on.
Now (Updated 09/23/2020)
My life is currently filled by gymnastics, lifestyle optimization, blogging, time with friends, and work.
After a few months without access to a gymnastics gym, my team has found a space where we can practice on the weekends. Having that opportunity means I’m making good progress on skill work as well as strength work, which I’ve been doing at home since the start of the pandemic.
Much of my lifestyle optimization ends up on the blog but recently I’ve been focusing on getting testing (blood-work, DNA, micro-biome) done to assist with finding targeted interventions I can make to really optimize my physical health.
My wife and I have been doing our best to responsibly spend time with friends. We’re currently hanging out with one couple per weekend in an attempt to balance social time with relatively low risk of Covid transmission.
At work, I’m at Microsoft where I work on some shared features in the Office Suite. I’m fortunate that I can work from home and have really been enjoying work a lot. I’m learning new tech stacks (TypeScript+React Frontend, C# Backend, Machine Learning feature development) and generally becoming a better engineer.
Normally, I would be traveling frequently and planning my next big trip. Unfortunately, we can’t travel much at the moment and, despite recently completing a 5 month honeymoon, I’m missing it quite badly.
Finally, I’ve been a vegetarian since January 2016, after having grown up on a farm where we raised and butchered animals for our own consumption. I became a vegetarian because I’m concerned about the environmental impact of eating meat, I’m concerned about antibiotic resistance, and I believe the treatment of factory farmed animals is morally indefensible.
